Why I Don’t Charge by the Hour | Because real moments don’t happen on a schedule.

There are plenty of services where hourly rates make sense—but a family photo session isn’t one of them. As a father of two, I know firsthand how unpredictable kids can be. They might be perfect angels for grandma and grandpa, but the second it’s just mom and dad? Chaos. And that’s okay. Sometimes little ones need a few extra minutes to warm up, calm down, or simply decide they’re ready. That shouldn’t cost you more money. That’s why I charge a flat rate—not by the hour. I want your session to feel relaxed, not rushed. No watching the clock. No stressing about extra fees if your toddler decides now is the perfect time for a meltdown. Just space to breathe, laugh, reset, and get back to making memories. Some of the best photos happen in those in-between moments: when your daughter runs up to hug you unexpectedly, when your partner makes you laugh mid-pose, or when your kid finally cracks a smile after 20 straight minutes of frowning. If we’re worried about time, we might miss those. Family photos should be about love, connection, and joy. The experience should reflect that too.
